Getting out of the house to go on a date is a great thing, but it doesn’t mean that staying at home for a date can’t be fun, and potentially a great way for you and your date to learn about each other.
Of course, everyone knows about “Netflix and chill”. Here are some fun alternatives if you’ve watched everything there already.
1. Take a personality test and compare the results
We did this a lot while we were dating and it was loads of fun. Our favorite test was the 5 Love Languages. Take the test for free online and see what your love language is! For more details on what each love language means, get the book.
Other people swear by the Enneagram test. And of course, there’s Myers-Briggs. But there are many more if you Google around for them.

2. Cook an epic meal together
I’m not a great cook, but I love cooking with someone else who is. This is a fun stay-at-home date idea and you get to enjoy the result at the end!
3. Plan your ideal vacation
If you love to travel, planning a dream vacation can be fun, even if you can’t go right away!
4. Watch Your Favorite Concert Online Together for Free
YouTube has videos for even the most obscure of bands and performers. For popular bands, there are tons of free live concert videos. Just do a search!
One Friday night when my wife and I were in sick, we just searched for Live Aid performances by our favorite bands. Of course, Queen stole the show. At the other end of the spectrum was the disastrous “reunion” performance by Led Zepplin, but still very entertaining to watch. In between were great performances by David Bowie, the Cars, Paul McCartney, U2, and Eric Clapton.
By the end of the night, we were on our feet and waving our arms. We kind of felt like we attended this historic show!
5. Give massages!
I’ve never met a soul who didn’t appreciate a good massage. Even a “bad” massage is usually pretty good. Listen to your partner for feedback.
6. Play a game or do a puzzle
During COVID, we did a bunch of puzzles! Scrabble is a fun classic game that’s always fun. Or, do a crossword puzzle.
7. Ask each other these icebreaker questions!
You can find the list here for FREE. Be prepared for great conversation and learning about your partner.
Or, check out Talking Point Cards for Couples.
8. Have a listening party to discover your partner’s favorite music
Go through your old CDs or have a listening party using the songs on your phone, alternating who gets to pick the next song. Introduce your partner to obscure bands they’ve never heard of, like one of my favorites, Pink Martini.
9. Go through your favorite books and why you love them
This is a great one if you love to read!
10. Go through your old photos
Do you still have photos from when you were a kid?
If you don’t keep photo albums, go through the oldest photos on your phone or computer.
11. Have a temporary tattoo party
Have a party drawing temporary tattoos on each other using special markers that you can get on Amazon specifically for this purpose. Can’t draw? No problem – there are stencils that you can use; just pick the ones you like!
12. Play Doh date nite
Apparently, this is a “thing” on Tik Tok. Basically, go back to being a kid and make little animals and stuff with Play Doh! I admit I don’t fully get this one but it just might work if you are both creative. Leave a comment below if this worked for you!
13. Cozy up to a fireplace
If you’re lucky enough to have a wood-burning fireplace, this can be a romantic stay-at-home idea in foul weather.
